From Sell to Keep

Weekends are typically spent laughing with good company, sitting outside drinking hot coffee, traveling, or for some us weekends mean SLEEP. For me however, this weekend I took on my first "DIY" project. I've had this three piece set of furniture since I was a little girl. It has been passed down from generation, to generation. Since its been around for quite some time, I figured it was time to give it a fresh new modern look. I've never transformed anything in my life. Designing and creating has always been a hobby of mine, but I've never changed a piece of furniture. I've only ever watched transformations on the HGTV network. So being the girl that I am, I spent all Friday night and Saturday morning researching tools you'll need, the proper paint you should use, and picking new fabric idea's from Pinterest (so thank you world, you helped create a beautiful renovated bench seat) After picking out fabrics (on sale) from Joann's and buying the tools and paint from Lowe's I finally had what I needed to turn this outdated drab seat into a new and modern sleek seat that I could enjoy everyday. From reupholstering the seat with new fabric, to painting the frame of the bench, I must say I am proud with the way it turned out. It wasn't that difficult of a project, but It was a first. I can say that this is something I am going to continue to do. I find joy and peace in creating something new. I love seeing the transformation of a piece of furniture go from something that someone would sell (which I almost did) into something that someone would want to buy and enjoy (maybe a new business on the side) This bench seat now breathes new life, but continues on its story. Stay tuned for more future furniture DIY projects to come!
